- Production process |
|
Two types of processes -"hot rolling" and "cold rolling"- are standardized for the production of flat rolled stainless steel products. They are "JIS4304 for hot rolled stainless steel plates, sheets and strip" and "JIS G4305 for cold rolled stainless steel plates, sheets and strip". In addition, there is "JIS G4312 for heat-resistant steel plates and sheets" for heat resistant steels. The products are hot rolled at a temperature of approximately 1000°C and cold rolled at ambient temperatures. |

- Plates and sheets |
|
JIS establishes no specific distinction between plates and sheets but AISI has the following dimensional distinction.
|
Plates |
Rolled or cast products of over 254mm (10 inches) in width and 4.76mm (3/16 inches) and over in thickness. |
Sheets |
Rolled products in coils or in cut lengths of over 609.6mm (24 inches) in width and 4.76 mm (3/16 inches) and under in thickness. |
