Reason for selection: “The Honjogawa
River Flood Gate is a large-scale facility with over 200m2 of the gate leaf area
built as a measure against a Nankai Trough Earthquake (predicted to occur with some
probability in future) and duplex stainless steel is adopted as the material
for the main part of the gate leaves. With high
strength of the material maximized, the beam construction is made simple, and its
weight is reduced by some 20% compared with structures made of conventional
stainless steel of the same dimension. All the
techniques of Marsima Aqua System Corp. gained through its experience of having
dealt with the Great East Japan Earthquake are utilized, including the adoption
of a cernit gate to optimize the construction for transmitting water pressure from
the bearing pressure plates to the gate columns and an opening/closing system
that may be operated by remote control in conjunction with J-Alert.Accessary components, where carbon steel is commonly used, are made of
stainless steel as well in this case so that such maintenance work as repainting
may be omitted and loss of function due to corrosion avoided. Thus, utmost
consideration is given to ensure that “the Flood Gate works without fail
when it needs to”.
